About The Marion Roe Memorial Scholarship Foundation

Established in 2014, The Marion Roe Memorial Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to offering an annual scholarship to graduating high school seniors in Bergen County, New Jersey. We believe that every student should have access to higher education, regardless of their financial background. Our mission is to provide monetary scholarships and support to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and a commitment to community service.

A devoted wife and loving mother of four boys, Marion Roe was a pillar of her community. Marion received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from William Paterson College and worked for many years as a nurse in the intensive care unit at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, during which time she helped negotiate a landmark contract guaranteeing pay increases and improved working conditions for nurses. Marion was recognized for her outstanding service to the community and served as Captain of the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, President of the Montvale Parent-Teacher Organization, member of the Montvale Board of Education, and Committee Member of Montvale Boy Scout Troop 334, among countless other endeavors. As an EMT, she was credited with saving seven lives. In 2006, she was named Bergen County Volunteer of the Year. Marion was a familiar sight in the community and had an innate instinct to help others. She was an inspiration to those who knew her and will always be  remembered by her friends and family for her warmth, humor, and counsel. Marion lost a brave battle with cancer in June of 2008 at the age of 54.
